circRNA-disease information
Expression pattern:
UP
Associated gene: CREBRF, Ago2, VIRMA mRNA
Associated microRNA: miR-452-5p
Biological function: Promotes cervical cancer cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, migration, invasion and xenograft tumor growth, and inhibits apoptosis.
Molecular mechanism: CircVIRMA acts as a ceRNA sponge for miR-452-5p to upregulate CREBRF expression and promote cervical cancer progression.
Biological pathway or process:

ceRNA regulation (promotes); proliferation (promotes); cell cycle (promotes); apoptosis (inhibits); migration (promotes); invasion (promotes)

Detected method:
Q
Validation methods:

Sanger Sequencing; RNase R Treatment; Actinomycin D / DRB Stability Assay; RT-qPCR; Nuclear-Cytoplasmic Fractionation; Clinical Sample Validation; Bioinformatics Analysis; Luciferase Reporter Assay; RIP (RNA Immunoprecipitation); Transfection; CCK8; EdU Staining; Colony Formation Assay; Cell Cycle Assay; Annexin V/PI Flow Cytometry; Transwell Assay; Western Blot; In Vivo Animal Model; IHC (Immunohistochemistry)

Clinical significance:

High circVIRMA expression was associated with more malignant phenotypes of cervical cancer patients and may be a candidate therapeutic target.

Description:

CircVIRMA is up-regulated in cervical cancer tissues and cell lines and functions as an oncogenic circRNA. It promotes proliferation, cell cycle progression, migration, invasion and xenograft tumor growth while suppressing apoptosis, mainly by sponging miR-452-5p to increase CREBRF expression. High circVIRMA expression is associated with more malignant clinicopathologic phenotypes, suggesting potential therapeutic relevance.

Confidence score:

0.8572
