| Associated gene: |
PRMT5, CAMK2N1 |
| Associated microRNA: |
miR-331-3p |
| Biological function: |
promotes PCa cell proliferation and migration; promotes tumor growth and metastasis |
| Molecular mechanism: |
Acts as a ceRNA/miRNA sponge for miR-331-3p to attenuate miR-331-3p repression of PRMT5, leading to CAMK2N1 transcriptional inhibition via PRMT5 epigenetic repression |

| Clinical significance: |
High circSPON2 expression is associated with higher Gleason scores and T stages and lower progression-free survival (PFS) in PCa patients |
| Description: |
circSPON2 is upregulated in prostate cancer tissues/cell lines and is mainly cytoplasmic. It promotes proliferation, migration/invasion and metastasis by sponging miR-331-3p, thereby relieving miR-331-3p-mediated repression of PRMT5 and contributing to PRMT5-driven epigenetic suppression of CAMK2N1. High circSPON2 correlates with advanced clinicopathologic features and worse progression-free survival. |
