circHIPK3 is down-regulated in diabetic cardiomyopathy (and also decreased in diabetes). In AC16 cardiomyocytes under high glucose, circHIPK3 overexpression reduces PTEN mRNA/protein and suppresses high glucose-induced apoptosis, suggesting a protective role via negative regulation of PTEN.
