circCCDC66 (circCCDC66_10_8) is up-regulated in colorectal/colon cancer tissues (including polyps) and its high expression predicts poorer overall survival. Functionally, it promotes proliferation, migration, invasion, anchorage-independent growth and metastasis, and its knockdown suppresses tumor growth and liver nodule formation in xenograft/orthotopic models. Mechanistically, it acts as a miRNA sponge (e.g., for miR-33b and miR-93), protecting oncogene mRNAs such as MYC and increasing oncogenic programs.
