circ_0098181 is down-regulated in cirrhotic/fibrotic liver tissues and activated HSCs. Overexpression of circ_0098181 suppresses HSC activation, proliferation, and migration, reduces inflammatory cytokine expression, and ameliorates CCl4-induced liver fibrosis. Mechanistically, it directly binds PKM2 to inhibit PKM2 nuclear translocation/phosphorylation, and its biogenesis is negatively regulated by ADAR1 binding to flanking intronic complementary sequences.
