High serum circCSPP1 expression is associated with poor survival, tumor size, T stage, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage; serum circCSPP1 has diagnostic value for distinguishing GC patients from healthy donors with AUC 0.834, and combined circCSPP1, CEA and CA19-9 achieved AUC 0.882.
circCSPP1 (hsa_circ_0001806) is an exonic circRNA derived from CSPP1 and is up-regulated in gastric cancer tissues, serum, and cell lines. The study supports serum circCSPP1 as a non-invasive diagnostic, recurrence-monitoring, and prognostic biomarker for gastric cancer, with high expression associated with poor survival and advanced clinicopathological features. Mechanistically, circCSPP1 is mainly cytoplasmic and the authors predicted a circCSPP1-miRNA-mRNA ceRNA regulatory network, but downstream interactions were bioinformatically predicted rather than experimentally validated.
