| Biological function: |
Potential auxiliary diagnostic and prognostic marker for gastric cancer; high expression is associated with poor differentiation and nerve or vascular invasion, and may assist in identifying proliferative capacity and histological origin of tumors. |
| Molecular mechanism: |
Predicted cytoplasmic circRNA-miRNA regulatory mechanism; hsa circ 0005480 may function as a binding platform for miRNAs involved in gastric cancer progression, but direct binding and downstream regulatory mechanisms were not experimentally confirmed. |

| Clinical significance: |
hsa circ 0005480 showed diagnostic performance for distinguishing gastric cancer patients from healthy donors and benign gastric disease patients, improved diagnostic performance when combined with traditional laboratory indicators, and decreased after chemoradiotherapy or surgery, suggesting utility in prognostic assessment and treatment-effect monitoring. |
| Description: |
This study identified hsa circ 0005480 as an up-regulated plasma circRNA in gastric cancer using GEO datasets and RT-qPCR validation in clinical plasma samples. It showed diagnostic value alone and in combination with traditional tumor markers, decreased after treatment or surgery, and was proposed as a marker for screening and prognostic assessment. Mechanistically, it was mainly cytoplasmic and predicted to act as a miRNA-binding platform, although direct functional and mechanistic validation was not performed. |
