circRNA-UBE2G1 (hsa_circ_0008956) is up-regulated in OA tissues and LPS-treated human C28/I2 chondrocytes, and higher expression correlates with higher modified Mankin scores. Mechanistically, it mainly localizes to the cytoplasm and functions as a ceRNA for miR-373 to regulate HIF-1a, thereby promoting LPS-induced chondrocyte injury, apoptosis, and inflammatory cytokine expression. Its inhibition alleviates LPS-induced OA-like cellular injury, suggesting potential therapeutic value in OA.
