Mechanistically, it localizes mainly to the cytoplasm and acts as a ceRNA sponging miR-375 to relieve repression of MMP-16, thereby promoting EMT-like changes and enhancing HCC cell migration/invasion; exosome-mediated transfer of circ-0072088 modulates metastasis and tumor growth in vivo.
