circSETD3 (hsa_circRNA_0000567/hsa_circRNA_101436) is down-regulated in hepatocellular carcinoma and functions as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting proliferation and inducing G1/S arrest. Mechanistically, it acts as a ceRNA sponge for miR-421, thereby relieving miR-421-mediated repression of MAPK14 and suppressing HCC growth in vitro and in a cell line-derived xenograft model. Clinically, low circSETD3 expression is associated with worse RFS/OS and adverse clinicopathologic features. |
