circRNA-disease information
Expression pattern:
UP
Associated gene: -
Associated microRNA: miR-124
Biological function: prognostic biomarker for lower risk of progression
Molecular mechanism: Enriched miRNA target sites and SCEs, but no evidence for repeated binding sites for the same miRNA (argues against miRNA sponge as canonical mechanism).
Biological pathway or process:

ceRNA regulation (other)

Detected method:
S
Validation methods:

RNA-seq; Back-Splice Junction PCR / divergent primers PCR; Sanger Sequencing; Nuclear-Cytoplasmic Fractionation; Survival Analysis; Clinical Sample Validation

Clinical significance:

High circHIPK3 expression is associated with a significantly lower risk of progression in NMIBC (independent of the linear transcript and host gene).

Description:

circHIPK3 is upregulated in the less aggressive NMIBC risk class and higher expression predicts a lower risk of progression independently of the linear transcript and host gene. It is mainly localized in the cytoplasm and shows enrichment of miRNA target sites/SCEs, but the study does not support a strong single-miRNA sponge mechanism.

Confidence score:

0.63
