circRNA-disease information
Expression pattern:
UP
Associated gene: MDM2, E-cadherin, IGF-1
Associated microRNA: miR-944
Biological function: Promotes hepatocarcinogenesis and HCC progression by suppressing the antitumor effect of miR-944, associated with increased metastasis, oxidative stress, and cell proliferation; high circSERPINA3 is associated with lower 1-year survival.
Molecular mechanism: Acts as a miR-944 sponge leading to miR-944 suppression and increased MDM2; associated with IGF-1 pathway activation and increased E-cadherin levels.
Biological pathway or process:

metastasis (promotes); proliferation (promotes); ceRNA regulation (promotes); PI3K/AKT (other)

Detected method:
Q
Validation methods:

RT-qPCR; Clinical Sample Validation; ROC Analysis; Survival Analysis; Cohort Study; Bioinformatics Analysis

Clinical significance:

Circulating circSERPINA3 shows diagnostic value for HCV and HCV-induced HCC (ROC/AUC), and high circSERPINA3 expression is associated with a lower 1-year survival rate in HCC patients.

Description:

In Egyptian patients with HCV infection and HCV-induced HCC, circSERPINA3 is upregulated in plasma/PMNC-derived RNA and is inversely correlated with miR-944. The study supports a ceRNA-like mechanism where circSERPINA3 sponges miR-944, associated with increased MDM2 and enhanced malignant phenotypes (proliferation/metastasis) and poorer short-term survival, and it shows diagnostic value by ROC analysis.

Confidence score:

0.5339
