In high-glucose (diabetic) conditions, circ-ADAM9 is up-regulated in EPCs and mainly localizes to the cytoplasm. It sponges mir-20a-5p to upregulate PTEN and ATG7, inhibit AKT/mTOR phosphorylation, and thereby promote autophagy and apoptosis while impairing angiogenic capacity; circ-ADAM9 knockdown improves perfusion and microvessel formation in diabetic hind limb ischemia. |
