circRNA-disease information
Expression pattern:
UP
Associated gene: MMP9, AGO2
Associated microRNA: miR-194-3p
Biological function: promotes cell proliferation, colony formation, migration, invasion, tumor growth and pulmonary metastasis in hepatocellular carcinoma
Molecular mechanism: circUBAP2 acts as a ceRNA to sponge miR-194-3p and thereby upregulates MMP9
Biological pathway or process:

ceRNA regulation (promotes); proliferation (promotes); migration (promotes); invasion (promotes); metastasis (promotes)

Detected method:
Q
M
Validation methods:

Microarray; Bioinformatics Analysis; RT-qPCR; Clinical Sample Validation; Sanger Sequencing; RNase R Treatment; Actinomycin D / DRB Stability Assay; FISH / smFISH; Nuclear-Cytoplasmic Fractionation; RIP (RNA Immunoprecipitation); RNA Pull-Down; Luciferase Reporter Assay; Transfection; CCK8; Colony Formation Assay; Transwell Assay; Wound Healing Assay; Western Blot; IHC (Immunohistochemistry); In Vivo Animal Model; H&E Staining; Survival Analysis

Clinical significance:

high circUBAP2 expression is associated with increased tumor size and high tumor recurrence rate and predicts poorer overall survival and recurrence-free survival in HCC patients

Description:

circUBAP2 is up-regulated in hepatocellular carcinoma and promotes proliferation, migration/invasion, tumor growth and lung metastasis. It mainly functions as a cytoplasmic ceRNA by sponging miR-194-3p, thereby relieving repression of MMP9. High circUBAP2 is associated with worse OS/RFS and may serve as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in HCC.

Confidence score:

0.8892
