In preeclampsia placenta, circZDHHC20 is up-regulated and predominantly cytoplasmic. It suppresses trophoblast proliferation, migration, and invasion by sponging miR-144 and thereby relieving miR-144-mediated repression of GRHL2 (circZDHHC20/miR-144/GRHL2 ceRNA axis).
