| Biological function: |
Circ-Foxo3 functions as a tumor suppressor in ESCC by inhibiting cell growth, proliferation, migration, invasion and xenograft tumor growth, arresting cells at G0/G1 phase, and inducing apoptosis. |
| Molecular mechanism: |
Circ-Foxo3 acts as a ceRNA/miRNA sponge for miR-23a, thereby relieving miR-23a-mediated repression of PTEN and upregulating PTEN expression. |

| Clinical significance: |
Circ-Foxo3 expression was associated with TNM stage and may serve as a reliable biomarker and therapeutic target for ESCC. |
| Description: |
Circ-Foxo3 is downregulated in ESCC tissues and cell lines and acts as a tumor suppressor. Its overexpression inhibits ESCC proliferation, migration, invasion and xenograft tumor growth, induces apoptosis and G0/G1 arrest, and mechanistically sponges miR-23a to increase PTEN expression. Clinically, lower circ-Foxo3 expression is associated with TNM stage, suggesting potential biomarker and therapeutic relevance. |
