| Biological function: |
CircURI1 inhibits GC cell migration and invasion in vitro and represses GC metastasis in vivo; decreased circURI1 expression is associated with advanced tumor-node-metastasis stage and metastasis in GC patients. |
| Molecular mechanism: |
CircURI1 acts as a protein decoy that directly interacts with hnRNPM and sequesters hnRNPM to modulate alternative splicing of metastasis-related genes, including VEGFA. |

| Clinical significance: |
CircURI1 has potential to act as a predictive biomarker or therapeutic target for GC; decreased circURI1 expression levels were significantly associated with advanced tumor-node-metastasis stage and metastasis in GC patients. |
| Description: |
CircURI1 is a human URI1-derived circRNA that is up-regulated in gastric cancer tissues compared with adjacent nontumor tissues. Despite its increased expression, circURI1 functions as an anti-metastatic circRNA by inhibiting GC cell migration, invasion, and in vivo lung metastasis. Mechanistically, nuclear circURI1 binds and sequesters the RBP hnRNPM to modulate alternative splicing of metastasis-related genes, including VEGFA. |
