| Biological function: |
circ-BANP promotes proliferation of colorectal cancer cells; knockdown of circ-BANP represses CRC cell proliferation and colony formation. |
| Molecular mechanism: |
Knockdown of circ-BANP reduced p-Akt protein expression while total Akt remained unchanged, suggesting involvement of the Akt pathway; whether circ-BANP functions as a miRNA sponge remains unknown. |

| Clinical significance: |
circ-BANP could serve as a potential diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic marker for CRC, although no correlation was observed with clinicopathologic features. |
| Description: |
circ-BANP is a BANP-derived circular RNA upregulated in colorectal cancer tissues and CRC cell lines. Functional knockdown experiments showed that circ-BANP promotes CRC cell proliferation and colony formation, possibly through activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway as reflected by reduced p-Akt after circ-BANP silencing. The study suggests circ-BANP may be a potential diagnostic and therapeutic marker for CRC. |
