circMYC has potential as a biomarker for melanoma diagnosis.
In melanoma, human circMYC (hsa_circ_0085533) is up-regulated in tumor tissues and promotes melanoma cell proliferation, viability, glycolysis, lactate production, and LDHA expression. Mechanistically, circMYC sponges miR-1236 to relieve repression of LDHA, while c-Myc and SRSF1 positively regulate circMYC production. The study suggests circMYC may serve as a diagnostic biomarker for malignant melanoma.
