circRNA-disease information
Expression pattern:
UP
Associated gene: -
Associated microRNA: miR-130a-5p
Biological function: promotes breast cancer cell migration, invasion and proliferation
Molecular mechanism: circVAPA acts as a miRNA sponge for miR-130a-5p and does not regulate its parental gene VAPA
Biological pathway or process:

proliferation (promotes); migration (promotes); invasion (promotes); metastasis (promotes); ceRNA regulation (other)

Detected method:
Q
S
Validation methods:

Back-Splice Junction PCR / divergent primers PCR; RNase R Treatment; Sanger Sequencing; RT-qPCR; RNA-seq; FISH / smFISH; Luciferase Reporter Assay; Bioinformatics Analysis; Transfection; MTT; Wound Healing Assay; Transwell Assay; Clinical Sample Validation

Clinical significance:

circVAPA is upregulated in breast cancer tissues and lymph node positive tissues and may serve as a novel prognostic marker for BCa

Description:

circVAPA (hsa circ 0006990) is an up-regulated VAPA-derived circular RNA in breast cancer tissues, lymph node positive tissues, and aggressive MDA-MB-231 cells. It promotes breast cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro, primarily through cytoplasmic miR-130a-5p sponging rather than regulation of its parental gene VAPA. The study suggests circVAPA may be associated with metastatic behavior and may have prognostic biomarker potential in breast cancer.
