Biological function: Promotes tumorigenesis, cell proliferation, cell survival, colony formation, invasion, tumor growth and tumor-forming capacity; inhibits apoptosis; promotes nuclear retention/translocation and stability of c-myc and upregulates c-myc targets.
Molecular mechanism: circ-Amotl1 interacts with c-myc, facilitates c-myc nuclear translocation/retention, promotes c-myc stability, enhances c-myc binding to promoters and upregulates c-myc target genes.
Biological pathway or process:

proliferation (promotes); apoptosis (inhibits); invasion (promotes); angiogenesis (promotes); other pathway/process (promotes)

Clinical significance:

circ-Amotl1 is highly expressed in patient tumor samples and may represent a potential target in cancer therapy.

Description:

circ-Amotl1 is up-regulated in breast carcinoma biopsies and cancer cell lines. It promotes tumorigenic phenotypes including proliferation, survival, colony formation, invasion, angiogenesis and xenograft tumor formation while inhibiting apoptosis. Mechanistically, circ-Amotl1 binds c-myc, promotes its nuclear translocation/retention and stability, and enhances c-myc target gene expression.
