In patient-derived trophoblast stem cell cultures differentiated into placental trophoblast lineages, circ_0000284 was primarily detected in syncytiotrophoblasts and not detected in extravillous trophoblasts. Knockdown experiments in primary syncytiotrophoblasts linked circ_0000284 to circR-loop formation, DNA damage, and senescence-associated gene expression.
